How to choose the right expert

A simple checklist for comparing professionals before you book.

Start with the problem, not the title

Write down in one or two sentences what you need help with and what a good outcome looks like. It makes it much easier to see which specialisation you need — and to explain it in your first conversation.

Compare the signals that matter

  • Specialisation — has this person handled matters like yours?
  • Experience — years of practice, and in which areas.
  • Credentials — look for the verified badge.
  • Reviews — read what clients say, not just the score.
  • Languages and location — especially if documents or hearings are local.
  • Fees — the consultation fee is shown upfront; ask how further work is billed.

Use the enquiry first

If you are unsure, send a short enquiry describing your situation. How a professional responds is often the best signal of fit.

This guide is general information, not legal, tax or financial advice. Speak to a qualified professional about your situation.
